Unpopular Fandom Opinion

Don’t feel guilty if you can’t comment on fics. You are not the shittiest fan on earth and you aren’t tearing the writer’s heart out and stomping on it while you read free fiction without “paying.”

Look I don’t care why you don’t comment. But if you sit there after reading my fic and feel a sense of dread while looking at a blank comment form, then do us both a favor and just hit the kudos button. I want you to be entertained. I want you to walk away smiling or…idk turned on or, really, anything positive. If all you feel is guilt, how is that fun for anyone?

Seconded. I love comments as much as anyone, especially on WIPs to signal that people are still reading. But I’m very grateful for kudos. I know others may feel differently and really need comments, but kudos are enough for me. Comments that say “+1″ or “chapter kudos” are enough. I agree with @telesilla, I treasure comments if you feel moved to leave them, but I don’t want anyone to stress out over them.

Agreed. I love that the kudos option is there to make it easier for readers to give a positive reaction, and every kudos is appreciated. And on multi chapter stuff, then commenting +1, or <3, or “chapter kudos” (I haven’t seen that before, I like that) are very welcome.

Of course it’s wonderful to receive any kind of positive comment, but I wouldn’t want it to be at the expense of stressing anyone out. I hope that reading my stuff is an enjoyable experience:)
