Some security plans for Unite The Right 2 got leaked on Twitter and too many people were mocking how terribly made this
is rather than talking about the fact that fascists are actively
planning and developing tactics to straight up kidnap antifascists in
the street.
Going to the gym solo and showing up with a few
comrades and hoping other people will be there and fascists will break
and run from confrontation isn’t going to work anymore. Times are
changing. If you’re serious about directly confronting fascists in the
street you’re gonna need predetermined plans and strategy and yes point
people. Decentralized non-hierarchical mob tactics in a chaotic street
brawl against organized fascists isn’t gonna do anything but get people
arrested at best and killed at worst.
This
is basically existing police snatch squad tactics- the crossbow. Yes,
antifascists absolutely need to study and understand mass group tactics.
So, two things. One,
the American fascist movement is, as a general rule, a paper tiger
which has a history of melting in the face of literally any opposition
at all. They don’t want confrontation, they don’t want a fight, they
want to hurt people, without
consequences or risk of repercussions. They are the schoolyard bully
that whines ‘no fair’ when their victims hit back. In a street fight
they’re more likely to run away, and come back later in small groups to
harass isolated stragglers.
Two, while keeping this
in mind, we need to organize and plan our defense as if they are 100%
willing and able to mount a serious challenge, because there are
exceptions to every rule, and if we do not prepare for those exceptions
there will come a time when a lot of our people get hurt or killed. Preparing for the way things usually are instead of the way things could potentially be is a recipe for failure.
Okay. So what are we gonna do? Are we gonna have a plan?

Last time there was representation by literal militias. Pennsylvania Light Foot Militia, the New York Lightfoot Militia, the Virginia Minutemen Militia, the Oath Keepers and the 3 Per Centers. These are dangerous groups.
The Oath Keepers for example, recruit directly from law enforcement and ex U.S. military members.
Last time, the president first said that there were “fine people on both sides” and then when pressured into condemning white supremacy, did so by blaming violence on both sides. These people believe they have support from the highest offices in the country, and, in some ways, they do.
This should not be taken lightly. We can’t count on legal or law enforcement support. Ex law enforcement members of these militant groups will know what they can get away with. The existing Police Union is known to have been infiltrated by white supremacists, as detailed by an FBI investigation into exactly that possibility. When this was discovered, unlike the military, the Police Union refused to take any steps to prevent or rectify this.
Many police officers WILL be trying their best to “keep the peace” whatever that means to them, and many of their superiors will be trying to minimize political risk, but we cannot count on legal or law enforcement support.
Some of the white supremacist groups have tactics that include dressing and acting in ways that allow them to get away with “assisting” real police or national guard. This is not some bunch of backwards and stupid boys who are mostly bluff, many will be people who go to regular training sessions and have backgrounds and experience in crowd control and melee combat.
familiarize yourselves with police and military crowd control tactics, as these will be employed against you.
Los Angeles Cross Bow Tactics:
The Los Angeles Police Department — no stranger to large disturbances — developed cross bow tactics to enhance classical formations. Commanders give commands and signals and in response, team members held in reserve in a column formation shoot through the line like and arrow from a cross bow to:1.) Conduct a rescue. 2.) Effect an arrest. 3.) Encircle a group. 4.) Quickly secure ground abandoned by a rioting crowd. Crossbow is a dynamic technique that, when utilized as a powerful psychological effect on a crowd.
Familiarize yourself with various group and their identification symbology, know who you are going up against.
Remember that not all Religious groups are automatically on the side of the so-often “christian” Right. For example, Seth Wispelwey, a United Church of Christ minister in Charlottesville who helped form Congregate Charlottesville, a faith-based group created in response to last summer’s white-supremacist actions, called for opposition to (event organizer) Kessler’s plans. “The language of white civil rights is cover for white-supremacist ideology,” he said. “We also know that if we care about our country’s future we can’t let this fascist plan go forward. I would urge people of conscience to show solidarity with the people of D.C. against this racial terror.”
This year the Unite the Right rally will be in Lafayette Square in Washington DC, which is within view of the White House.
Show up and let the president know we will not tolerate white supremacy. But show up safe. Research how to be safe at an event like this. Go with a group. Have your group be in contact with other, more experienced groups that will be in attendance. Sharpie your lawyer’s number onto your arm. Be prepared for tear gas. And pepper spray. Tear gas can cause dangerous complication for anyone with asthma or similar conditions. Aside from that, one of the biggest dangers of tear gas is panic: getting separated from your group and/or trampled. Have escape routes and secondary meeting locations for if you get separated planned with your group. Do not rely solely on your cell phone for this.
When preparing for tear gas, as near as I can tell, soaking a bandana in vinegar is a very persistent myth, vinegar does not help, and may cause more harm than good. (Try wearing a vinegar soaked bandana at home, if you are curious). Bandanas themselves are not great against tear gas (but are marginally better than nothing). Swimming goggles and a painters mask from the hardware store will be better, but not offer immunity. Choose a mask called a “ particulate respirator” that has the word “NIOSH” and either “N95” or “P100” printed on it. Avoid wearing contacts if possible, as pepper spray and tear gas can make them a liability.
