So I went to watch Mark’s newest Try Not to Laugh video, since I needed a laugh after the day I’ve had, and guess what happened the second it loaded.
Guess why I have captions on Mark’s videos? Because there’s a 90% chance that I can’t properly process what he’s saying, but I want to enjoy the video anyway.
Doing this makes that impossible.
So, whoever put the captions on this video, and whoever puts captions on videos, this is not acceptable. I can’t enjoy this video because my brain is physically incapable of processing the sounds coherently on a reliable basis and you couldn’t find it in yourself to caption this accurately.
Hopefully, in a few days, these captions will have been fixed and I can actually watch the video. That tends not to happen, though, so I don’t have high hopes. And this happens on a lot of Mark’s videos; people thinking they’re being funny by doing the captions like this.
Even though it makes it impossible for me, and other people like me who rely on captions, to enjoy the video.
Which, really, doesn’t make you funny. It just makes you mean.
Stop it.
Listen:
It is at the point where I never turn on captions because of shit like this.
If anyone is unaware, I am 30-40% deaf in both ears. I almost always misinterpret what people are saying because of this.
I need captions. But because people like to do shit like this I have to turn my volume up.
I know, I know : “what a tragedy.”
But in the long run, a constantly higher volume is damaging to my already terrible hearing. And it’s not restricted to just me.
High volume on anything is hurtful to everyone.
And before y’all ask/tell us to fix it ourselves… I don’t think you understand the “hard of hearing” part…
this happens on dan and phil videos too. they say something and then y’all decide to go “*PHANGIRLS MANICALLY DYING IN THE BACKGROUND*”. no. NO oh my god
leave that stuff in the comments!!!! that’s what it’s for!! hoh/deaf people need captions and y’alls “*enter me, screaming because phil said that*” ain’t helping.
I’m profoundly deaf and have cochlear implants, and without them I can’t hear at all. And even if I do wear my processors, I can’t exactly hear everything properly. Meaning, I can’t hear certain noises, or sometimes I don’t understand what people are saying, and it just sounds like.. mumbling?
So I rely on captions to understand the videos, and I always wait until they are added to watch. And then when I actually do get to watch them after waiting for at least a day, there are all these extra comments in the captions, which doesn’t really help, and they’re.. not necessary.
Unless you actually have something to contribute, don’t add anything to captions. Some of us are just trying to enjoy the video, and people who do shit like that are just making it harder to do that.
I’m hard of hearing in both ears (way worse in my right but pretty bad in my left too) and I’m also autistic and ADHD which makes processing sounds difficult. If the sounds and the captions don’t match up it can send me into a meltdown bc of my autism. It’s hard for me even when captions are a beat behind on shows and movies, but when they’re completely wrong it can legitimately bring me to tears and have me panicking. Please don’t do this shit.
I have a learning disability that limits how quickly and well I process things that happen/are said, so with lots of fast paced stuff, I need or greatly benefit from captions. Let me and others who need captions enjoy content please.
Some videos turn on auto generated captions and think that’s enough, but it really isn’t. Have you every tried to get Siri to understand you? Voice Recognition programs are horrible, please, for the love of everything, just get someone to caption the video properly. We can’t hear and we can’t understand auto generated jumbles. It’s also super frustrating to go on a channel that has millions of subs, and never caption their videos, even when they have scripts anyway!
Please be kind to Deaf and HoH people, just put proper captions on.
