someone will bring up politics and he’ll somehow change the subject to hiking. anything mildly uncomfortable and he can steer the conversation to smoother waters. you don’t realize until later on in the day that he has saved you from the awkward conversation of religious beliefs with a customer to having an earnest conversation about the best way to prepare chicken. i don’t know how he does it. everyone leaves the interaction feeling happy. he’s fucking wasted in retail.
