Am I the only one whose internet addiction started with my parents not letting me fucking go anywhere

This but I also had no friends so I wouldn’t have anywhere to go if I was allowed

this is a thing! danah boyd is a researcher who has been studying social media for over a decade and in her 2014 book it’s complicated she argues that teenage social media “addiction” (which she also contends is like…..not actually a thing) is a result of the fact that “today’s teenagers have less freedom to wander than any previous generation” because “parents argue that these restrictions are necessary in an increasingly dangerous society, even though the data suggest that contemporary youth face fewer dangers than they did twenty years ago.”

as a result, teenagers are reclaiming these lost social spaces (which their parents and grandparents had in the form of mall hangouts, drive-in theaters, after school parking lots, etc) by using social media, where they can continue to “engage in crucial aspects of maturation: self-presentation, managing social relationships, and developing an understanding of the world around them,” aka stuff that teens are Supposed to be doing

Hi! Can you educate me on the current politics in Australia? I don’t know much about it but I’m really interested. Thanks!!

littlemixed:

hi! i’ll try my best but i’m in no way an expert with this sort of stuff!!

I’ve outlined here some of the parties that are currently voted into our federal parliament:

The Liberal Party (LIB):

  • considered central right wing
  • promotes economic liberalism and cultural conservatism
  • currently forms the government (in coalition with the Nationals)

The Labor Party (ALP):

  • Considered central left wing
  • its constitution states it is a ‘democratic socialist party’
  • currently the opposition party

The Greens:

  • environmentally and socially conscious // progressive
  • a minor party that holds several seats in both state and federal parliament

The Nationals:

  • another minor party
  • shares values similar to the Liberal party (more conservative/right wing)
  • forms part of the Libs/Nats coalition government

Independents/Fringe:

  • there are also several independents and fringe parties such as One Nation (far-right) who make their way into and out of parliament at each election.

Our current government:

  • A Liberal/Nationals coalition (two parties joined together to form a majority, in order to form govt)
  • Prime Minister: Scott Morrison (LIB)
  • Deputy Prime Minister: Michael McCormack (Nationals)
  • Next election: May 2019

Current issues in Australian politics (that i have some knowledge on – i wont be mentioning some issues that i have no knowedge on):

  • the indefinite detention of refugees and asylum seekers on Nauru  [x] [x] [x] [x] [x]
  • climate change [x] [x] [x] [x] [x]
  • carbon emissions [x] [x] [x] [x]
  • coal mining [x] [x]
  • My Health Record [x] [x] [x] [x]
  • Treatment of Indigenous Australians (+ closing the gap), including Tony Abbott being appointed as Indigenous affairs envoy  [x] [x][x] [x] [x] [x]
  • treatment of south sudanese community (i think this is more specific to victoria) [x] [x

there is obviously other issues, but these are the ones i personally know more about and can speak on (e.g anything to do with tax, business, the economy is not an area i know enough about to speak on), however im sure a quick google search could help you learn more

not sure if this is exacly what you wanted to know but here it is!!
