Let’s Help Bird Beat Cancer
You probably all remember this post, back when we all hoped that @thulimo’s tumor was benign and she would be able to go home after surgery and relax and try to recover from said surgery. Sadly, that was not the case, and she’s been diagnosed with Stage II Endomterioid Ovarian Cancer, confirmed by pathology. It came with a complete hysterectomy, oophorectomy, and other medical disemboweling. In short, not a fun time for her, and she spent three days in the hospital recovering from her surgery, the weekend after back in the emergency room due to complications, had a chemo port placed on 10/28, and begins the first of six cycles of chemo on 11/5.
She’s having a really shitty time of it, guys. She’s exhausted, she’s hurting, she’s scared and who can blame her. Chemotherapy is rough, and she needs a lot of care and help while she adjusts to this new, however temporary, reality. her chemotherapy is six cycles, every three weeks, for the next approximately five months. I believe her end date is sometime in April, at which point the oncologist will start testing and scanning to make sure she is cancer free and we go from there.
We’ve both been pretty out of it, are constantly exhausted, and I am having to take time off work in order to try to get our lives under control and prepare her first chemo treatment and whatever is coming as a result of it. We need help, which is why I am posting another one of these.
HERE’S HOW YOU CAN HELP
We have a GoFundMe. We also have ko-fi; mine, and Bird’s. We also have a shared PayPal account. If you can’t afford to donate that’s completely understandable and we totally get it. Reblogs and words and messages of encouragement mean a lot to Bird and me and are just as important. Bird needs care items as well, such as loose fitting, chemo accessible clothing; hats and scarves for when she loses her hair; face masks for going out in public to help keep her from getting sick while her immune system is compromised; stuff to keep her warm as she already runs cold and she’s having the majority of her chemo in the winter months so she’s going to need more blankets and socks. Recommendations for books and movies and shows to watch during those long, six hour chemo sessions, and easy to digest recipes are also greatly appreciated! If you have ever been a caregiver and you have tips or advice for me, I would really love the help. Also, if you or someone you know is a cancer survivor and you have advice for either one of us, we would gladly welcome it!
I’m probably forgetting something, or a bunch of somethings. If you can think of something I’ve missed, yell at me. If you know of resources, yell at me. Thank you to everyone who has helped us so far, and thank you for your continued help and support. I love you, and whatever happens and whatever you do, be good to your fellow humans, whoever and wherever they are.
