Y’all it’s 330am and I literally just watched a commercial for a BULLET PROOF BACKPACK INSERT
Stick it in your kids backpack! So if there’s a shooter they stand a better chance!
Target demographic they showed? ELEMENTARY KIDS
Are we seriously just putting kids in tactical gear instead of making better gun laws?
I wish this was just some sleep deprived hallucination but of course it’s not
“Back to school shopping”??
I think what makes this worse for me is that they won’t even help in the event of a mass shooting. These are designed to block a HANDGUN, a low velocity round. Not an assault rifle which is mostly the weapon we have seen used in these sort of shoot events. So it is a false protection and might even get a kid killed because “Oh I can just hide behind my backpack!” and then it goes right through it. These people are literally making money off of people’s fear with a substandard product that won’t even work. It’s another band-aid fix that let people believe they are doing something without fixing the problem at all. It is horrible.
Oh yeah I forgot about that bit. The commercial said a 9mm and I’m like “they don’t use those so these are useless”
Also: most worn “bulletproof” stuff is actually very literal. It can potentially stop a bullet. The second, third, etc? Not so much; once the structural integrity of the material is compromised, it’s much less effective. It can also degrade by washing or due to moisture/heat in the air, depending on the materials used. Actual bulletproof stuff is too heavy for most kids to lug around- and expensive besides.
Just, ya know, to reiterate what’s pointed out above: this is a cash grab that will be about as effective as wearing six sweaters simultaneously.
And like, remember momentum? It may stop the bullet, but it won’t stop how fast the bullet was going, and for a little kid, therefore alone could probably cause serious damage or death.
