Over 80% of the Native Americans were dead by diseases brought over by Columbus’ crew long before the Pilgrims arrived in North America. The Native Americans suffered an apocalyptic catastrophe that made the European Plague look like a bad cold season. This was not done on purpose but it was inevitable that it would have happened eventually.
So what we had here was a Post-Apocalyptic world being resettled by a technologically more advanced civilization. Anthropologically speaking, there was no other outcome possible but what occurred, not on the grander scale of it, anyway. That a bunch of political and religious refugees turned a culturally devastated land into the greatest bastion for freedom, self-rule, and scientific advancement this planet has ever seen is nothing to be sorry for.

Please dont fucking act like Native genocide was some kind of unfortunate accident. It was a series of deliberate, violent acts that took advantage of the aftermath of the plagues Europeans brought with them.

2. More fake news. The eradication of the buffalo was for the railroads and cattle ranching. In fact part of the Treaties was supplying the Tribes with cattle and grain to feed them and aide them to become ranchers and farmers themselves. There was one guy (yes ONE SINGLE PERSON) who was hanged because he sold the cattle rather than giving them to the Tribes.
3. Trail of Tears was a bad thing that personally effected my own ancestors. It was carried out by Andrew Jackson who was a Democrat. Being forced to live in a place with no forests when your entire spiritual existence is based upon becoming one with the forest is cruel beyond measure.
4. Residential schools that beat Native children for speaking their mother tongue were wrong, but also a product of the Jackson administration. Yet another reason to dislike the Democrat Party.
5. These bounties were primarily issued by the British Crown until the Revolutionary War came about the British Crown gave the Tribes in the region false promises of returning land to them if they fought against the rebels. To our eyes taking scalps to prove death and receive a reward is barbaric, but one cannot apply modern morality to historic events and understand the history at the same time. It is true that the British taught the Natives how to scalp and it is also true the British were offering the natives money and guns for American scalps. As with wars always, around and around it went. You should study the Ukraine during WW2 if you want some real barbarism because by comparison the Revolutionary War was amateur hour.
6. By the British, French, Spanish and Americans treaties were broken, but also by the Natives as well, and as stated in another branch of this thread, often these treaties were broken by rogue elements of Tribes that the tribal elders and chiefs lost control of, bringing down retribution on the entire tribe.
If a neighboring country is harboring groups of people that continue to raid, rape, murder and pillage your people and they do nothing about it, it is the nation that gets hammered and hopefully the bad guys get mopped up in the process. Can anyone say, Afghanistan, Taliban, Al Qaeda, and 9-11? I can come up with dozens of other examples like
Chechnya but I would have to look up their names and you might not know them anyway.
Point is, it was not ‘genocide’.
It was inevitable that once an entire continent’s population is thrown into a post-apocalyptic world and a civilization advanced enough to be considered Sorcerers enters into that world, that the native population will lose what precarious hold they have on the land they call home.
If 80% of the people in the USA died over the next six months or a
year or even a decade then every single city and town of any decent size
would collapse. Those who survived would be starving with no power,
only the gas they can siphon from another vehicle, no refrigeration, no
mail, no internet, no phones, no grocery store, no heating, no ac, no
tv, no radio, no Onion, no doctor (unless you were really lucky), little
medicine and nothing that needs refrigeration or has a fast shelf-life
like insulin or epipins. Antibiotics would become something of the past.
Even guns would soon see their function go away as ammunition runs out.
And
then some alien race lands and they have rayguns and forcefield armor
and they want to build cities and farms. They don’t have to fight you
but you can’t stop them even if you tried. You can just hope they leave
you enough land to hunt on, but you know they won’t as more and more
keep landing here.

5. Its not a question of “modern morality ”, its proof that the eradication of native peoples was deliberate. There were even scalping rewards for native children.
6. And many treaties were broken by Europeans specifically for the purpose of MANIFEST DESTINY.
It is genocide. The fact that YOU view it as ~inevitable~ with your patronizing and ignorant view of native peoples doesnt make it any less so.
As defined by the UN: genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such: Killing members of the group; Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; (e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.
The multitude of violences perpetrated against the Native Americans, particularly with the slaughtering of bison and residential schools, which were not “war” casualties by any means, absolutely qualify as genocide.
(And for the record, invoking what the US did in the War on Terror just…kinda makes our continued bombing of civilians look more and more like fucking war crimes.)
