Vaire

nurantarenendurath:

Let’s talk about Vaire

Normally I would post a picture of her and explian shortly, who she is

But here comes the thing: I feel like Vaire gets way to less attention and I’m pretty sure, that she deserves more. So here is my little love letter to the weaver of the Valar.

So Vaire is one of the Valar, which already makes her awesome, since she is one of the most powerfull beings EVER!

Her name means as much as weaver or ever-weaving in Quenya and that describes pretty well the things she does. She weaves the whole story of Arda/ Ea into great carpets which she hangs onto the walls of the halls of Mandos.

So not only does she see everything throughout the history of the HOLE FRICKING UNIVERSE but also she has the strength to weave all this. (And regarding the history of Arda we can assume that it took a lot of strength to weave all this misery)

She is the wife of Namó (aka Mandos) who watches over the halls of Mandos. He gets a lot of attention and credit for all the stuff he did. (Curse of the Noldor, Prophecy of the first elve slain in Valinor etc.)

Namó is one of the Aratar, that means he is one of the eight most powerfull Valar and assuming that Vaire isn’t much weaker than him you can see, that even among the Valar her power is enormous, yet still one does not hear much form her excpet for her weaving skills.

But this has a reason. Vaire doesn’t play a big role in the Silmarillion, Tolkien just tells us, that she is a weaver and the wife of Namó and thats basically it.

While many other Valar do great things, Vaire isn’t mentioned, but here comes the turn. She isn’t involved in those big things, cause she weaves them. She keeps on weaving, telling the story of Arda and never gives up, for this is her duty, the gift Eru gave her in the beginning.

And what does she do with her weavings? She hangs them onto the walls of Mandos halls. Just a little reminder, there are all the dead elves and they don’t know anything about the fate of their loved ones, who are still alive.

But there comes Vaire and, weaves all the story of Arda and everyone is still able to take part in everything his loved ones do.

Vaire is like a bridge between the living and the dead and if that isn’t cool I really don’t know what is.

And here I’ll come back to her strenght. Imagine Vaire weaving and shedding a tear for Finwe, who was doomed to be the first elve to die in Valinor.

Or picture her, shocked, the needle nearly falls from her hand, when Ungolianth kills the trees. And through all this terrible events she still doesn’t stop. She keeps on weaving an telling the story of the whole world.

It is stated in the Silmarillion, that Ulmo was the only Valar, who never abandoned Middleearth, but that isn’t really true. Vaire never abandond Middleearth either.

She watched over it and weaved it’s story. And that makes her pretty special.

Thats all about Vaire. Well not everything, there surely is more, since she is just so awesome (Like every Valar, but you get the point)

Sorry if this was long, but I felt like it had to be said
